The Olive Branch Medical Value Offering.
The Olive Branch Medical concept was founded by Karen Jater,
drawing on her extensive specialised nursing experience of caring for
Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients.
Our Concept
The Olive Branch Medical concept introduced a new dimension in the care of the elderly undergoing Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
The end of life experience should take place with respect obviously, and Karen’s new dimension encompassed love, compassion and humour.
Patient Engagement
In advanced stages of dementia, we have a window of opportunity to engage the patient. Love and compassion are given. The humour is a little more complicated, depending on the “windows” which may be only seconds at a time.
The objective is to make the patient laugh and to feel supported in spite of their circumstances.
The love and compassion is… it would seem…appreciated, to be honest, most of the time, although some patients may be a little harder to reach because of their conditions.
Family Support
However, it is not only the patients who need care. The loved ones also need help and support through difficult periods, particularly when the patient is in extremism.
The Olive Branch Medical offers support, helping the relatives cope with their various decisions, especially when you have lost someone.
